Gary O’Neil disputes Oliver Glasner’s belief Issa Diop should have been sent off in last night’s 1-1 draw between Ipswich Town and Nottingham Forest.
The incident occurred early in the second half at Portman Road as James McAtee burst towards the hosts’ goal only to have his progress ended by a sliding tackle from the Tractor Boys’ defender.
Neither the referee, Thomas Bramall, nor the assistant referee even flagged for a foul after Diop slid, completely missed the ball and upended the Forest midfielder.
The VAR sent Bramall to the pitch-side camera and while the official did subsequently award a foul, he brandished a yellow card, rather than the red Glasner felt was merited.

The Austrian said: “It was today for me was the right procedure of how it should work. The referee takes a decision, the VAR intervenes, he goes to the screen and watches it and then he takes a decision. I think this is how the procedure should work. Everything correct and it is just a different opinion.”
But O’Neil, who has steered Ipswich to ninth in the Premier League with ten points from eight games, disagreed.
“It’s a foul, Issa misses the ball and catches McAtee. I thought Leif Davis was in a good position to cover, I think McAtee’s touch was slightly big and going away from goal probably, so I think they came to a real good conclusion, with a good process.”
O’Neil added: “One where we had to show another side to get something from the game.
“One where togetherness, shutting up a little bit and being a bit safer got us through to the finish line. And proud of the players, because not easy to do that and a good point for us.”
Forest moved out of the bottom three and ended a three-match losing run but once again came away feeling they had left points on the field after creating a number of opportunities.
