Tony Mowbray reacts to Blackburn Rovers' heavy defeat

It was a torrid first-half display from Rovers, who were 3-0 down after 36 minutes. Each goal was avoidable, with defensive error contributing to an all-round terrible performance.

Stephen Eustaquio was left unmarked in the six-yard box for the opener, before a mistake from Tom Atcheson gifted the second. Gady Beyuku and Balazs Toth could have done better for the third.

Mowbray was particularly frustrated with Rovers' persistence of trying to play out from the back. After a full week of preparations, he felt that played into Swansea's hands.

"I think the frustration comes from having a week to prepare the game," Mowbray said.

"We know they're number one in the league for high pressing, you see the intensity they play at, and they've obviously had great results all season, apart from last weekend.

"I just don't think we carried out what we'd worked on during the week. I think we've had some decent results recently as well and played some nice football.

"I think today wasn't the day for us trying to play nice football against such a high-pressing team. It was a day to turn them round and make them face their own goal, and we didn't do that and we paid the price.

"It's a collective thing, and I'm not sitting here blaming the players. Maybe the messages weren't strong enough from the staff.

"At the end of the day, the opposition are allowed to be good, and they are good, and the statistics show they're good, and they've been up in the top one or two or three, whatever it is, all season.

"Maybe we'd been playing well and getting positive results ourselves and thought we could do that and play through them and round them.

"Yet the evidence was that we couldn't do that, and they are good at what they do. So, take it on the chin, move on to the next games when we've got a chance."

Whilst individual errors contributed to the goals, Rovers couldn't get near Swansea all game. There was a lack of intensity when they tried to press and were cut apart on multiple occasions, even if they didn't lead to goals.

Mowbray somewhat protected his players by not criticising them individually and instead wanted to focus on what was a collective failing.

"I can sit here and give you all my thoughts, but I don't think many football coaches do that," he said.

"Listen, there were individual errors there, we have to take it on the chin. We shouldn't be playing around the edges of our box and giving a team who are number one pressing in the league the chance to do what they're really good at.

"I think it's a collective result, we got it wrong today and suffered for it with a very good team on the other side of the game."
