Scotland have handed a first call-up to Newcastle Red Bulls flanker Ollie Leatherbarrow in an otherwise settled selection for their Nations Championship games in November.

The 24-year-old Leatherbarrow, who qualifies via a grandmother born in Perth, has impressed over the last few seasons and bolsters the back row options available to Gregor Townsend for Tests against New Zealand, Australia and Japan.

Sione Tuipulotu will once again captain a 37-man group heavily drawn from Glasgow and Edinburgh’s squads, with both of the Scottish sides making strong starts to the United Rugby Championship campaign.

There is no place, though, for young Edinburgh tighthead Ollie Blyth-Lafferty, nor club colleague Hector Patterson, overlooked in a competitive fight for back three places.

Freddy Douglas is another not included from the capital club, though Townsend is able to pick a fit-again Huw Jones (Toulon) in the centres.

Scotland open their Test window on Saturday 7 November as they again seek a first win against the All Blacks.
