Roy Keane knows a thing or two about being a captain, widely considered one of the best there ever was. But he has picked out a Nottingham Forest legend as the most awe-inspiring skipper of all time.
Nottingham Forest have had some excellent footballers and captains, but for Roy Keane, there is one who stands out as maybe the best ever.

It is high praise for Roy Keane to praise someone for their captaincy credentials, but in the case of Stuart Pearce, there can be no doubt that he is absolutely spot on.
Keane was asked on The Overlap’s TikTok channel who the best captain of all time is, and he found it difficult.
“No, don’t be silly”, Keane said in response to the interviewer asking if he would say himself, which he would be within his rights to do, as many of the others asked in the video said he would be theirs.
“It’s the hardest question ever”, Keane added, “When I was coming through and as a youngster, learning about the game, Stuart Pearce was a brilliant captain for me.”
Pearce is, of course, Forest’s longest-serving captain and a club legend at that. Keane and Pearce played 114 matches together for Forest.
It says it all that Keane is many people’s greatest captain ever pick, while he himself chose Pearce. Forest could do with a Stuart Pearce in the team right now to buck standards up and get this team kicking.
Unfortunately, they just don’t make them like Keane and Pearce anymore. Morgan Gibbs-White does a great job, but he isn’t cut from the same cloth as either of these two as far as being a captain goes.
