“Derby County have completed the signing of Shane Duffy on a short-term deal. The 34-year-old has penned an initial two-month contract in DE24 following a trial period with the club.”
Duffy will be available for Saturday’s trip to Millwall as Derby look to improve a difficult start to the season.
The Rams currently sit 23rd in the Championship, having won just once in their opening 12 league matches.
Their defensive injury problems have created an immediate need for experienced cover, with Duffy arriving after spending time training with the squad.
Duffy will be remembered by Celtic supporters for his loan spell from Brighton during the 2020/21 season.
The Irishman arrived in Glasgow with considerable expectations as Neil Lennon’s side attempted to secure a tenth consecutive league title.
He initially made an encouraging impression, scoring in each of his first two Celtic appearances.
Duffy made 27 appearances in all competitions before returning to Brighton, later acknowledging the personal difficulties he experienced during his time in Glasgow.
He subsequently played for Fulham and Norwich City before becoming a free agent earlier this year.
Derby have highlighted his experience in English football and at international level, with Duffy having earned 61 caps and scored seven goals for the Republic of Ireland.
His short-term agreement gives him the chance to establish himself in the Championship again, with a potential debut against Millwall at The Den on Saturday afternoon.
