Liverpool is moving closer to the January transfer window, which will give returning sporting director Julian Ward a first opportunity to dip into the market.

The club faces several key decisions, with concerns about the right-back position, as well as the midfield and right wing, for the long term.

Those could be areas the club looks to improve, but the January market may also be an awkward one to operate in, meaning some long-term targets may be put off until the summer. Meanwhile, there could be some exits on the cards to try and improve the balance within the squad.

So, with that said, here's a look at the latest Liverpool transfer news and rumors ahead of another busy day of action on Merseyside.

Wael Mohya (Borussia Monchengladbach)

Liverpool is monitoring Wael Mohya's progress, according to TeamTalk, with the Borussia Monchengladbach youngster tipped for a bright future.

The 17-year-old attacking midfielder is enjoying a breakout season in the Bundesliga, after featuring several times for the senior team last campaign. With a contract that only runs until 2028, teams are on alert over a possible deal for a promising youngster, while his club is beginning talks about a potential extension.

Liverpool isn't alone in its admiration, as Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund, Bayer Leverkusen, RB Leipzig, and Brighton are all following his situation too.

Liverpool.com says: It's no surprise that Liverpool is looking at the biggest and best youngsters currently on the market, with the clear need to build a team for the future. Mohya has shown the kind of promise that would put him on the club's radar.

Considering his contract situation too, there is clearly a chance to land a possible bargain in the next year, should no extension follow. There may be concerns about the adjustment from the Bundesliga to the Premier League, but there would be less pressure on him than someone like Florian Wirtz upon joining.

It has been a tough start to life for Jeremie Frimpong at Liverpool so far, with the full-back struggling to cement a place in the team after just over a year at the club.

The Dutch international could have a route out, however, as WinWin reports that Saudi Pro League club Al-Hilal is interested in a possible deal. It's claimed that the defender would be open to a move, though it's unclear whether that would come in January or in the following summer.
