Bayern Munich faced Arsenal at the Allianz Arena in the UEFA Champions Lueague and came out with a 2-2 draw. While the team was earlier touted to have a tough time due to their depleted squad, the circumstances, in hindsight, were good enough to muster a win. The result of the game came down to poor decisions and in part, to Arsenal’s ability to deadlock their opponents with a low block.
Harry Kane echoed this exact sentiment following the game, . The Englishman believes that Bayern had a good performance, but failed to kill the game off after their goal.
“I thought we had a good performance. Especially the start of the second half, we got the goal and had the chance to kill the game off with another goal,” he said (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).
“Towards the end of the game we found ourselves in a low block and struggled to get the ball out,” Kane said referring to the low block Arsenal implemented after Bayern’s second goal. The visitors retained possession for long stretches, making Bayern chase for the ball. The situation now wasn’t just that it was harder to score — Arsenal used the spaces left behind by runners to score their second goal.
“Overall we could’ve been more efficient, but I thought the draw was a fair result. We take the point and move on,” Kane stated.
This game leaves Bayern with a point and a lot to learn. Hopefully, they figure out what’s next before the next big opponent.
