Hull FC reserve team exodus continues as two make Championship moves

Two more Hull FC reserve team players have made a switch to the Championship with the Super League club’s exodus of young talent continuing.

A handful of Hull FC reserve players have departed the club at the end of the 2026 season in order to take up Championship deals for 2027, with Ben Johnson among the most notable given that he’d made a senior appearance for the Black and Whites.

Johnson’s move to Hunslet was confirmed earlier in the month, whilst the Parksiders also signed Jordon Baker earlier this week but they’ve now recruited yet another Hull FC reserve team player.

The South Leeds outfit have confirmed the signing of prop forward Will Wilson on a 12-month deal, with the ex-Beverley Braves junior becoming yet another recruit to come through the Hull FC system.

Whilst Wilson did not make a senior appearance for Hull FC, the young forward was a standout in the reserves as a physical middle and Hunslet head coach Kyle Trout spoke in depth about the assets that Wilson will bring.

He said: “Will is a great acquisition for us. He’s got a great rugby league pedigree, a brilliant engine, and he brings exactly the kind of size and aggressive ‘go-forward’ that we need in our pack.

“He’s hungry to prove himself at the senior level, and we are excited to see him develop here at South Leeds Stadium over the next 12 months.”

Ex-Hull FC reserves captain signs Championship deal

Wilson isn’t the only Hull FC reserves player to be on the move in the past couple of days as Goole Vikings have also signed one of the Black and Whites youngsters, with Alistair Sywer signing for the Championship club.

Swyer, 19, was the joint-captain of the Black and Whites’ reserves in 2026 but the dummy-half will be playing in the Championship next year after agreeing a deal with the Vikings.

He will link up with his former teammate Jon Turner, who Goole signed earlier in the month, with the Vikings recruiting a number of young players for 2027.

Head coach Brett Ferres said of Swyer: “Ali is a really positive pick-up for the club. Like a lot of our recent signings, he’s still learning the game, but he’s really hungry and determined to take his opportunity.

“It’s another example of the type of player we’re looking to bring into the club. Young, ambitious players who are hungry for an opportunity and prepared to work hard to earn their place.”

Swyer added: “I’m very excited to be turning a page in my rugby career and joining Goole Vikings for the 2027 season.

“It’s an exciting time to be joining the club and I’m itching to get started with pre-season preparations with the lads.”
