As impressive as Paris Saint-Germain’s 4-2 victory over FC Barcelona may have been, it has taken a toll. Having suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee, Kvicha Kvaratskhelia (25) will be sidelined for many months – perhaps even until the end of the season. A huge blow for the Georgian, as well as for the Parisian club, which must now set about filling the void left by the number 7.

In this regard, several options are on the table. Mika Godts (21), signed this summer from Ajax, shares a similar profile to ‘Kvara’. However, he still has some way to go to live up to the promise he has shown. Maghnes Akliouche (24) and Désiré Doué (21) are, of course, also options, as their versatile playing styles are highly valued by Luis Enrique.

However, the Spanish manager may well opt for a fresh approach. According to Le Parisien, a move to see Nuno Mendes (24) play on the left wing cannot be ruled out. Currently sidelined through injury, the Portuguese player possesses speed and a driving force that could suit PSG’s attacking system. The young players Senny Mayulu (20) and Quentin Ndjantou (19), who, according to the newspaper, are widely appreciated and will have a role to play in the rotation, also represent alternatives.
