It’s Champions League matchday for Bayern Munich — both the men’s and women’s teams!
The Frauen will kick us off first, hosting Real Madrid at the FC Bayern Campus. In team news, striker Jovana Damnjanović could be ready to make her return, but Giulia Gwinn and Lena Oberdorf are still out.
“Real Madrid have been very versatile tactically this season and have the quality to pose a threat with individual moves. The team can press high up the pitch and apply pressure in various ways. That’s why we’ll need to remain flexible and keep adapting as the game progresses,” Bayern coach José Barcala offered in his match preview (as captured by FCBayern.com). “It’ll be important to stay focused and well-coordinated – and to recognise situations faster than the opposition. The game will keep changing over the course of 90 minutes. As a team, we must be able to react quickly to these changes if we’re going to be successful.”
Bayern enters the UWCL contest on a tough run of matches, having played both Friday and Monday games the week prior. The Bavarians are coming off a 5-1 trouncing of RB Leipzig, though, and have to be feeling in top form.
Bayern has a win (3-0 over Benfica) and a draw (2-2 vs. Manchester City) in the competition so far while Real Madrid is sporting two draws. The only perfect team after two matchdays: FC Barcelona, who has scored 11 goals to just two conceded. Lyon has not conceded yet and has scored eight, but they all came in one game.
Prediction: Bayern wins 3-1. Tough run of games and all, but Bayern will be too much for the LaLiga side.
It’s Bayern time.
