Everton manager David Moyes has poured cold water on suggestions that Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford could join the club in January by insisting that talks over any winter signings are yet to begin.

Rashford, 29, returned to Man Utd this summer following a season-long loan spell at Barcelona last year, but he is yet to hit his stride since moving back to Old Trafford ahead of the 2026-27 campaign.

The England attacker has failed to score in eight games for Man Utd so far this term and he is currently sidelined with a hip injury that has seen him miss the club’s last four matches across all competitions. As a result of his indifferent form, he is one of several Red Devils stars who have been tipped to leave the club next year, alongside Lisandro Martinez and Joshua Zirkzee.

A host of clubs across Europe will likely be interested in finalising a deal for Rashford if he becomes available, and rumours indicate that Everton are among his suitors amid their continued pursuit of forward reinforcements.

The Toffees strengthened their attacking roster with the signings of Tyrique George and Jack Grealish (loan) over the summer, but they remain eager to improve the options at Moyes’ disposal and it has been widely reported that Rashford is on their radar.

Football Insider claim that internal discussions over a move for Rashford are taking place at Everton, with the club open to arranging a potential deal when the January transfer window opens.

However, Moyes has insisted that his side are yet to engage in advanced talks over any new signings.

David Moyes provides Everton transfer update

When asked about the possibility of any new players moving to Everton in January ahead of their clash against Coventry City on Friday night, Moyes bluntly replied: “No. At the moment, there's no plans (for January), no.

“I think the current group we've got are doing excellent,” he added. “I think, especially knowing the way things have gone in the summer and the window, I think they need praise for how they're doing and they're going about it.

“We've lost a couple of games, but we've won a few important games as well. So, pleased with them and I hope we can keep it going.

“I think there's a lot to be positive about because of how they've been doing generally. I feel we could have probably been doing better if we hadn't lost some players in the summer.”

Moyes continued: “I think it would have kept us right and amongst it. We've dipped and the other night we won at Newcastle but if we don't, we could have been sitting here maybe 15th or 16th in the league, I don't know where it would have been.

“But it would have still only been probably three or four points off the top teams. So, it's very hard to judge the league standings at the moment. I think all you can try and do is get as many wins as you possibly can and perform as well as we've done.

“I think in the main, the players, even in the games we've lost, I think they have had good moments in the games and we've been a little bit unlucky.

“Maybe we just don't quite have the quality to be at the levels of some teams, but hopefully we'll give them all a good game.”
