AC Milan learned last night that Matteo Gabbia will not require surgery to recover from the injury to his left thigh.
Gabbia has had a torrid time this season; he started the season injured and when given his chance to return, he went down in the first half. From the way he went down, you knew it was serious and when he was stretchered off, Milan had that familiar sense of dread again.
It’s not the first defensive crisis that they’ve experienced; if anything, this is familiar territory. However, they’re in something of a no-man’s-land, stuck between the summer and January mercatos.
The Rossoneri have had some good news about the central defender’s situation, though.
Thankfully, as MilanNews reports, Gabbia’s consultation with a specialist in London has gone well. So well that the central defender can begin conservative treatment rather than be forced to undergo surgery.
He’ll be out for three or four months, and certainly back on the pitch this season. In fact, the recovery time could even be shortened. So, it’s a positive result for all parties.
Nevertheless, you’d still assume that the desire to sign a central defender in a few months will not be sidelined. Before his injury, the Diavolo were looking to sign Goncalo Inacio, so that desire will not disappear.
