Big changes as Rangers fans change their minds on Ibrox board
Rangers board criticism
RECORD DATE NOT STATED 21st March 2026 Ibrox Stadium, Glasgow, Scotland Scottish Premiership Football, Rangers versus Aberdeen Andrew Cavanagh of Rangers PUBLICATIONxNOTxINxUK VagelisxGeorgariou

The Carlsberg weekend that Rangers and Rangers fans have had is evidence of one thing. When results and performances on the pitch go in Rangers’ favour, less interest and board criticism is given to the men off it.

It is all about results at Rangers and indeed any big club. In recent seasons, of course, so much criticism has been aimed at the men in suits. The likes of Stewart Robertson, Ross Wilson, Dan Purdy and Kevin Thelwell have all received huge barrages of criticism because Rangers were so poor.

Rangers Results Change Everything

But, of course, as soon as results start to improve, the attacks on the men in the boardroom reduce significantly. The same applies when fans get what they want in terms of certain signings and managers.

It is evidence that Rangers fan criticism has very little to do with the board. Instead, everything comes down to what the manager gets out of the players on the pitch. And, of course, the players themselves.

Ibrox Noise always holds managers accountable at Rangers. They are the end result.

Every manager we have ever spoken to or read their autobiography (Hi Graeme) about admits that they carry the ultimate responsibility. They are the end game.

The Manager Carries the Responsibility

It is not about the players, even though fans like to blame them, as they do at Manchester United. It is about the manager and what they are doing with those players.

When results go well, and indeed results elsewhere go well, the board themselves fade into insignificance in the background.

They are not responsible for results on the pitch, and that’s the currency of any football team, especially Rangers.

Therefore, right now, the discussion about the board and their merits is next to nothing.

Russell Martin’s Rangers Struggles Put the Board Under Pressure

When Russell Martin was having his shambolic time at Ibrox, the board and ownership came under huge pressure.

But get the results right, get the performances right and suddenly that kind of discussion fades very quickly into the background.

That is why we’re sure the board and ownership are very happy right now. Things are a little bit better on the pitch and in the dugout.

Rangers’ Board Enjoys a Quieter Period

It is not perfect, and it is a long way from being so.

But the silence surrounding the men in suits is definitely helping to keep things a little more harmonious at present.
