Dan Burn has been left out of England’s squad for the upcoming UEFA Nations League matches against Croatia and Spain.
The Blyth-born defender was part of Thomas Tuchel’s World Cup squad, making substitute appearances against Mexico, Norway and Argentina, however missed out on Tuchel’s first squad after the tournament due to an ankle injury.
Newcastle’s captain was subsequently absent for the Three Lions’ opening four UEFA Nations League matches between September and October and has been unable to force his way back into the squad for the final two group fixtures.

The 34-year-old returned to fitness at the start of last month, making brief cameo appearances against Coventry City and Aston Villa before starting Newcastle’s last three games against Crystal Palace and Everton back-to-back.
Four of those five appearances have ended in defeat, with the only victory coming at Palace, which happened to mark Burn’s first start of the campaign. Burn is set to start for the visit to Fulham on Saturday.
Newcastle will, however, have at least one representative in Tuchel’s squad, with Lewis Hall earning a call-up for the second successive international break.
England host Croatia at Wembley next Thursday before rounding off their UEFA Nations League group campaign with a trip to Madrid four days later to take on world champions Spain.
Tuchel's side need just a point across those two games to guarantee their place in the Nations League quarter-finals in March.
