Four clubs battling for England centre Seb Atkinson as transfer update emerges
Seb Atkinson

Another update has emerged on Seb Atkinson’s Gloucester future, with the England centre reportedly attracting interest from four PREM Rugby clubs.

Mail Sport have reported that Atkinson is in talks with Cherry and Whites head of recruitment Rob Burgess over a new contract, with his current deal due to expire next summer.

Harlequins, Saracens and Leicester Tigers have all been linked with the 24-year-old, although previous reports have suggested a move to London is more likely than a switch to Leicester.

Mail Sport previously reported that Atkinson’s girlfriend works in London, while both Quins and Saracens are looking to strengthen their options at inside centre.

That could make either club an appealing destination.

RUCK understands that Atkinson received a formal offer from Harlequins in September. However, with his future still unresolved, it seems unlikely that he accepted the proposal at the time.

The West London club may have since improved its offer, meaning a move to The Stoop remains a possibility.

Atkinson made his England debut against Argentina last summer and has since earned seven caps under Steve Borthwick.

The 24-year-old joined Gloucester in 2022 following the demise of Worcester Warriors and has since established himself as one of the standout performers at Kingsholm.

His impressive displays have earned him international recognition, but his remarkable fitness levels have also helped him stand out from the crowd.

In 2024, Atkinson completed the gruelling Bronco fitness test in just four minutes and eight seconds.

The running drill is designed to test the conditioning of rugby players, with his time setting a new benchmark in the PREM.

He even bettered the times recorded by some of the world's leading players, finishing four seconds quicker than Beauden Barrett and three seconds ahead of Hugo Keenan.

His effort was reported as the fastest time ever recorded in rugby.

Atkinson has also developed a strong centre partnership with Will Joseph this season.

RUCK understands that Joseph has agreed a new deal with Gloucester, giving the club further reason to fight to retain Atkinson.

Keeping both centres at Kingsholm would be a significant boost for Gloucester, but with rival clubs circling, Atkinson's future remains one to watch as contract talks continue.
