Looking back at the 2013 football matchup between UCLA and Nevada

Saturday's game marks the first time since 2013 that the UCLA Bruins have faced the Nevada Wolf Pack on the gridiron, which was also the program’s meeting, where the Bruins secured a 58-20 Bruin win.

13 years later the two teams return to the Rose Bowl for another nonconference meeting. There’s a lot on the line for UCLA in Saturday’s game. The Bruins are looking for their first 8-0 start to the season since 2005.

Bob Chesney has UCLA rolling but the team did show some signs of weakness early in the game against Michigan State. The Bruins’ slow start didn’t cost them, eventually cruising for an easy win, but if the team is looking to win a Big Ten Conference championship or compete in the College Football Playoffs, they’ll have to be a bit sharper.

Back in the 2013 matchup, it was quarterbacks Brett Hundley and Cody Fajardo slinging the rock, with UCLA running back Jordon James leading all rushers with 155 yards on the ground. Shaquell Evans led the Bruins with 81 receiving yards and found the end zone. Hundlety starred in the game, with four total touchdowns and 274 yards through the air with an additional 63 on the ground.

The 2013 UCLA defense featured some studs, with Eric Kendricks, Anthony Barr and Myles Jack all making their presence felt in the game while Keenan Graham added two sacks for the Bruins.

A repeat of 2013 is the expectation for Saturday’s Halloween clash between UCLA and Nevada, with the Bruins entering the game as 22.5 point favorites despite starting backup quarterback Ty Dieffenbach.
