Champions Arsenal launch appeal as Key Match Incidents panel decide on Hull City flashpoint

Here's a round-up of the latest goings-on in the world of Hull City

The latest news from around the MKM Stadium ahead of gameweek nine in the Premier League

The latest news from around the MKM Stadium ahead of gameweek nine in the Premier League

Hull City are preparing for a huge game against Ipswich Town on Saturday afternoon, as the Tigers look for a first win since the end of August.

Sunday's 1-1 draw with Brentford ensured they remained unbeaten at the MKM Stadium, and Sergej Jakirovic's men will look to keep that going against another of the newly-promoted sides.

With City getting ready for a big weekend in the Premier League, here's a look at the things happening around the MKM Stadium and beyond...

Key Match Incidents Panel

The KMI have revealed their latest assessments of certain refereeing decisions, and on that list was Ryan Sessegnon's foul on Robinio Vaz. The City man limped off and required an MRI scan after the defeat at Fulham. Chris Kavanagh dismissed Sessegnon in added time of the Tigers' 1-0 defeat.

"The referee's call of a red card for serious foul play was unanimously supported. Sessegnon made high, full and forceful contact on Vaz’s Achilles, endangering his safety," the panel wrote.

"In this instance, the panel deemed that Sessegnon was correctly dismissed for serious foul play, with his challenge being made high on the opponent’s leg, making full contact with excessive force."

The Premier League say there were 24 Referee KMIs across gameweek seven, with the panel confirming they felt 88 per cent of decisions were correct. Meanwhile, there were four VAR overturns, all of which were said to have been correct.

Burstow bags

Mason Burstow was on the scoresheet to help managerless Sheffield Wednesday earn the Owls a point against Cambridge United on Tuesday night. Burstow scored his second goal of the League One season as he returned to the starting XI as a central striker.

Burstow's other goal for Wednesday came in the first game of the season when he scored and notched an assist in the thumping 7-2 win over Bromley at Hillsborough.

Wednesday are looking for a new boss after Henrik Pedersen was sacked at the weekend following the Owls' 2-0 defeat to Grant McCann's Doncaster Rovers. After 12 games, Wednesday sit ninth in League One, two points adrift of Reading, who occupy the final play-off spot.

Cannon fires

Andy Cannon played his part in Fleetwood Town dumping Arsenal out of the Carabao Cup on Tuesday night. The former City midfielder came off the bench late on and found himself caught up in the melee when Max Dowman was sent off.

After a pulsating cup tie went to penalties, Cannon slammed in his spot-kick to help Fleetwood net a perfect five and secure a famous victory, after Bruno Guimaraes' tame kick was saved.

Doc in demand

Former League One promotion hero Greg Docherty is a free agent after leaving Charlton Athletic in the summer, and has been linked with a move to a flurry of clubs. The Scotland midfielder made 90 appearances for the Addicks, helping them secure promotion back to the Championship as skipper.

The 30-year-old is now said to be attracting admiring glances from struggling Preston North End. The Lillywhites are at the bottom of the table with only one win in the opening 12 games.

Despite the appointment of club legend Graham Alexander, North End have not been able to spark their season into life and are six points adrift of safety.

Gunners launch appeal

Max Dowman was sent off during Arsenal's embarrassing Carabao Cup defeat at struggling League Two Fleetwood, who sat 84 places below the Premier League champions.

Dowman, the 16-year-old starlet, will now miss the next three Premier League games, starting with Sunday's trip to Liverpool, followed by the visit of City to the Emirates next weekend.

However, Arsenal have lodged an appeal against Dowman's red card and hope they will have an answer from the FA before they head to Anfield.

Congrats to Sergej

No sooner had Sergej Jakirovic finished his media duties at the MKM Stadium following Sunday's draw than the Croatian was off to Manchester to the FWA (North) Managers’ Awards Dinner at The Edwardian.

Jakirovic collected an award for securing promotion to the Premier League with the Tigers in his first season in English football, and was joined by assistant boss Dean Holden.

The City chief was pictured here with David Moyes. The Everton manager was given the tribute award after taking charge of more than 1,200 games, including the recent 2-2 draw against the Tigers.

The club says sorry

Large numbers of fans were left frustrated at the MKM Stadium on Sunday, after issues with the turnstiles meant they were unable to get into the stadium in time for kick-off, with tickets in some areas needing to be scanned manually.

"The club and Superstadium Management Company would like to apologise to fans affected by issues with turnstiles in certain parts of the MKM Stadium at yesterday’s game," City said in a statement. "The problems were linked to a software update issue, and we are working closely with our partner Teamcard to ensure these are rectified ahead of Saturday’s fixture against Ipswich.

"We understand the frustrations caused by delays entering the stadium and appreciate the patience and understanding of supporters as our matchday team worked hard to deal with the matter. Thank you as ever for your support."
