Keighley Cougars sign Australian after North Wales stint

A versatile player, Jacobson arrives with background in both Australian and British rugby league.

He spent time in the Newcastle Knights development pathway before playing for Macquarie Scorpions in Australia’s competitive Newcastle Rugby League competition.

His move to the UK saw him join Cornwall, where he marked his debut with a try.

His rugby journey has since included spells with Bedford Tigers, Swinton Lions and Rochdale Mayfield, while he spent time with the struggling North Wales Crusaders during the summer, making his debut in July.

Jacobson also spent time on trial with Workington Town around 18 months ago.

Crucially, Jacobson is comfortable at centre but also has experience as a back row. giving the coaching team options as they prepare for the challenges ahead in 2027.

At 24, the Australian also has plenty of opportunity to develop further and make his mark at Cougar Park.

Cougars head coach Bramald said: “Kye is someone we’re really pleased to bring into the squad.

“His versatility gives us options, and we’re looking forward to working with him in pre-season.

“He’s keen to be part of what we’re building, and we want to give him the opportunity to kick on here.”

Head of rugby operations at Cougars, Richard Dibbin, added: “Kye made it clear he wanted to come to Keighley, and it’s been a pleasure getting the deal over the line.

“We’re delighted he’s signed and are looking forward to seeing him get started with Matty, (assistant coach) Ryan (Jackson) and the lads.”

Jacobson is Keighley’s ninth new signing for 2027, alongside Marcus Green, Oliver Greensmith, Jayden Billy, Isaac Coleman, Finlay Balback, Jay Scriven, Lewis Pavier and Max Fleary.

Matty Beharrell, David Foggin-Johnston, Jack Teanby, Dan Parker, Nathan Rushworth and Leo Skerrett-Evans are all confirmed retentions from last season’s Cougars squad.
