With the NFL trade deadline approaching, many saw a potential reunion between Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Jauan Jennings and the San Francisco 49ers as a deal that could aid both sides.
Jennings, however, apparently disagreed.
Fox Sports' Jay Glazer reported Sunday, Nov. 1, that the Vikings and 49ers recently had the framework in place for a trade that would send Jennings back to San Francisco. The deal, however, was contingent on Jennings notifying the 49ers via a FaceTime call with coach Kyle Shanahan and general manager John Lynch that he wanted to join the team, Glazer reported. Jennings declined, per Glazer, and the agreement fell apart.
Jennings, 29, spent the first five years of his career with the 49ers before signing a one-year deal in May to join the Vikings.
So far, however, he has just four catches for 43 yards in five games. Despite being the NFL's last undefeated team, Minnesota has yet to see its passing attack coalesce, with the offense ranking 29th in passing yards per game.
San Francisco, meanwhile, has three receivers on injured reserve. Ricky Pearsall is out for the season, while rookie De'Zhaun Stribling has been sidelined since the opener. Mike Evans and Deebo Samuel Sr. both missed the Week 7 loss to the Atlanta Falcons that spoiled the 49ers' previously unblemished record.
Lynch already engineered one significant reunion ahead of the deadline, bringing back defensive tackle DeForest Bucker in a trade with the Indianapolis Colts.
