It's official: The Pittsburgh Steelers, like the rest of the NFL, lost out on the trade sweepstakes for an All-Pro offensive lineman from the Indianapolis Colts.
On Tuesday, the Colts made shockwaves by sending arguably the best guard in all of football, Quenton Nelson, to the Seattle Seahawks in exchange for near pennies on the dollar. In all, the Colts received 2027 third- and 2028 fifth-round draft picks from the Seahawks in exchange for Nelson. Considering the Steelers' need to upgrade one of their guard positions and their ability to exceed this trade price with two 2027 third-round picks at their disposal, this could've been a home run for Pittsburgh.
Nelson, who was drafted by the Colts in the first round of the 2018 NFL Draft, was considered by many to be one of the best guards of his generation, making 129 starts and earning three First-Team All-Pro selections, three Second-Team All-Pro selections, and eight Pro Bowl honors during his first eight years in the league.
Although the Steelers missed out on Nelson, the team is still expected to pull off a "semi-big" move for a wide receiver as the trade deadline nears.
