'Quite easy' - How Gianluigi Donnarumma has responded to Man City errors

Manchester City goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma is in the spotlight again after another shaky performance in midweek

Enzo Maresca has spoken with Gianluigi Donnarumma about his Manchester City mistakes but says the No.1 has not been impacted. The goalkeeper was at fault for RB Leipzig's first goal on Wednesday and made more shaky errors during the game as his patchy form continues.

Donnarumma did produce an excellent save from Christoph Baumgartner in that match and has made some important stops for the team as Maresca's side have started strongly in all competitions. However, the errors that have come alongside that good work have been costly in recent games.

City's manager has had conversations with his goalkeeper but says his fellow Italian does not need to be told because he is aware of the improvements that need to be made. With no pressure on his place in the team yet from Geronimo Rulli, all eyes will be on Donnarumma as City look to avoid three league defeats in a row when they head to Forest.

“He's good, overall he's good. He's quite relaxed, in terms of he recognises that he has done some mistakes but at the same time, as I said after the last game, also he has made some good saves. So it's just a matter of balance, try to avoid mistakes and continue to do the right things," said Maresca.

"It's much more easy for the language for me with Gigio. There are players that when they make some mistake you need conversation with them, and there are players that when they make some mistake you just need eye contact to understand that he recognises, he knows.

"With Gigio it's quite easy because every time he has made some mistake or something that was not correct, he recognises immediately. I spoke with Gigio, but again sometimes you don't need to be so deep with some players because you know that they know that they have made a mistake and they recognise that and just try to avoid that and move on."
