Jack’s words!
This season, the Hatters have been hit by a plethora of injuries.
As a result, the gaffer, Jack Wilshere, has been forced to operate with a reduced squad waiting for those injured to become available for selection again.
Discussing the situation, ahead of the EFL League One against Leicester City, Jack spoke in depth, as reported by – Luton Today -about the anticipated return of some of those who have been laid up.
Talking about a trio of players recovering from hamstring strains, who he quaintly nicknamed – The Hamstring Gang – comprised of – Shayden Morris, Benny Benagr and Jayden Luker – Jack remarked:
“Shayden, Benny and Jayden, I called them the hamstring gang. They’re getting towards the end of their rehab, again they’ve still got things they need to tick off.
“They’re joining in with training, all three of them were in the first part of training today, which was nice. We need competition for places, we need the ability to have a different threat, whether that be in midfield with Jayden, whether that be on the wings with Shayden and Benny, so they’re getting closer which is really positive.”
Now to me that is good news, all three, when fit, bring something to the table.
The pace Shayden Morris possesses is frightening, as an impact substitute, he is able to skip past tiring defenders.
As for Benny Benagr, although the youngest of the trio, he showed in the pre-season games what he could do and the old saying, “If you are good enough you are old enough” springs to mind.
Looking at Jayden Luker, it is clear that his season, on loan with Notts County, worked wonders for him and, like Benagr, his performances, before picking up his hamstring injury, convinced Jack Wilshere not to loan him out again this season.
Once all three are fit, competition for those wide places in the side, considering Tudor Mendel and Emilio Lawrence are also available, will give Jack a healthy headache to solve.
