Exeter pull off shock at Huddersfield

Exeter took the lead after 12 minutes, thanks to a perfectly-delivered cross from the left from Luca Woodhouse, with centre-back Jack Taylor stealing in at the far post to finish it off.

A Huddersfield side featuring six changes from their last League One match against Luton on Tuesday, struggled to create much in the way of clear-cut chances for the rest of the first half.

Samson Tovide’s curling effort after cutting in from the right wing was about the best the Terriers managed before the break, giving the fourth-tier side a 1-0 advantage at half-time.

But Huddersfield looked a different outfit in the second half, and they found an equaliser within eight minutes of the restart as Ibane Bowat headed home Cameron Humphreys’ corner at the back post.

Exeter’s Reece Cole produced the next chance of note, forcing Matty Young to tip over the bar with a direct free kick.

Charlie Cummins grabbed the winner nine minutes from time at the end of a well-worked move up the right culminating in Cole’s cutback and a good finish.
