Week 10 of the NFL season will see the Los Angeles Chargers travel to M&T Bank Stadium to take on the Baltimore Ravens. When the schedule was originally released, the game was expected to be an exciting showdown between two competitive teams, with an added storyline of Ravens head coach Jesse Minter facing his former team after previously serving as the Chargers’ defensive coordinator.
However, both franchises have taken a different path than expected this season, changing the outlook for the game. The Chargers remain the NFL’s only winless team at 0-7, while the Ravens have hit a rough patch of their own, dropping three consecutive games to fall to 4-4 while also dealing with multiple injuries at quarterback.
However, the Ravens-Chargers clash will retain its spot on ESPN’s Monday Night Football broadcast, prompting reactions from many NFL fans.
The Chargers’ offense has struggled to find consistency throughout the season, and concerns about Justin Herbert’s performance have only intensified.
Herbert has completed just 61.8% of his passes for 1,398 yards, five touchdowns, and 10 interceptions this season. His struggles are also reflected in the PFN QB Impact Rankings, where he sits at the bottom of the league with a 61.0 grade.
The situation is hardly better in Baltimore, which could potentially be without Lamar Jackson for the remainder of the season. Backup Tyler Huntley has also suffered a season-ending injury, leaving the Ravens in a difficult position at quarterback as they turn to undrafted rookie Joe Fagnano.
Given the disappointing situation surrounding both teams, some thought the league would move the Chargers-Ravens matchup out of its Monday Night Football slot in Week 10
However, under NFL scheduling rules, the league cannot flex the Week 10 MNF matchup because changes to the Monday night schedule are permitted only beginning in Week 12.
The league’s scheduling restrictions have left frustrated fans with little choice but to accept the Week 10 matchup as currently scheduled, triggering reactions from many.
“Another Primetime Disaster by Mr. (Roger) Goodell,” a fan said.
“NFL I’ll slide you a 50 to flex it,” one wrote.
For now, the performances of both teams in their upcoming games could determine how much worse the situation becomes before their November 16 meeting. The Chargers are scheduled to face the Houston Texans on Sunday, while the Ravens will take on the Jacksonville Jaguars on Thursday.
If both teams suffer another loss, the Week 10 MNF matchup could become an even bigger target for criticism, while fans continue to urge for a change.
“NFL you make your own rules lmao fix this garbage,” a fan wrote.
“I think this would be a good time to break a rule lol,” another said.
“No one will watch that garbage,” one added.
With the Week 10 schedule approaching, the pressure is now on both teams to show some improvement before their prime-time showdown.
A better offensive showing from Herbert could also help ease some of the criticism surrounding his performances and could potentially allow the Chargers to secure their first win. Meanwhile, Baltimore will look to end its three-game losing streak when it meets the Jaguars.
