On Saturday, October 31, the young players competed against Alvechurch Library 1 in a friendly, officially ECF-rated rapid chess match at Alvechurch Library.

The event, aimed at fostering competitive spirit and camaraderie, provided an environment for young chess enthusiasts to hone their skills and form friendships.

After the official match, the children took part in informal blitz games and a small unrated tournament, wrapping up a morning filled with chess activities.

Xavier Didelot, the club's junior secretary and team captain, played a pivotal role in organising and supporting the team.

The club thanked Xavier, the parents, and everyone involved in the event.

Evesham Chess Club, originally successful in Worcestershire competitions throughout the 1900s, has been diligently working to revive both competitive and social chess in the town and surrounding areas since its reformation.

The club, which has become one of the largest representing South Worcestershire, boasts a growing junior and adult section with teams participating in the Worcestershire Chess Association leagues.

Evesham players have also started representing Worcestershire in county chess competitions.

The club is actively seeking new members, welcoming beginners, returning players, and experienced players alike.

Meeting every Monday evening at Wallace House, Oat Street, Evesham, the club offers social chess, internal competitions, and other opportunities to enjoy and improve in the game.

Flexible membership options are available, including pay-as-you-go social membership and annual memberships for adults and juniors.

The newly reformed club is also looking for sponsorships and donations to support its activities, equipment, venue hire, and junior development.

The Evesham Chess Club thanked the English Chess Federation (ECF) Grassroots initiative and the Evesham Town Council Small Grant Scheme for the support it has received so far, which has been instrumental in the club’s revival.
