Fabrizio Romano has delivered an update on the situation of Barcelona star Fermin Lopez amid fresh links with Chelsea and Manchester United.

The 23-year-old has become one of the most productive offensive players at Barcelona. Last season, Fermin bagged 13 goals and notched 17 assists, and he is already on five goals and four assists this term.

Because of the sheer attacking talent at Barcelona, Fermin hasn't always been an undisputed starter, which has occasionally emboldened suitors to come forward. Last year, Chelsea attempted to sign him with a low-ball bid reportedly worth just €40 million.

Barcelona rejected the offer out of hand, while the player also had no intention of moving to West London. In the end, the Spain international was handed a new long-term contract. He is now tied to the Catalans until 2031.

And yet, this hasn't stopped the speculation from resurfacing. Earlier this week, it was claimed that Chelsea had reignited their pursuit of the attacking midfielder and were considering making a "massive bid."

Barcelona's Fermin stance

On Friday, it emerged that Man Utd had also begun exploring a move for the Spaniard, who has an Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) of a whopping €116.5m.

The Red Devils, it was revealed, had used their recent Champions League trip to Atletico Madrid as an opportunity to hold meetings and sound out possible transfer opportunities.

Besides Fermin, Man Utd also made enquiries for Atleti midfielder Pablo Barrios. However, it was made clear that neither is expected to become available anytime soon. Fermin and Barrios are simply too important for their respective clubs.

This has now been corroborated by transfer insider Fabrizio Romano. Speaking in a video posted on his X account, the Italian said: "Despite reports over the recent days, Fermin Lopez is absolutely untouchable for Barcelona.

"All the stories regarding a potential Premier League switch for Fermin Lopez are being played down by Barca and also those close to the player. Fermin is very happy at Barcelona, he signed a new deal at the club a few months ago.

"He is a completely crucial player for Barcelona, so it's not about the money. Fermin Lopez is considered by Barca, and especially by the director Deco, as a crucial player for the present and future.

"Fermin is also very happy at Barcelona, so the connection is fantastic. No change, no Premier League switch planned for Fermin Lopez. Everything is under control. Fermin Lopez is 100% staying at Barcelona."
