8 best stats from Wk 7's win include Pickens' improbable catch, Dak milestone

Some familiar problems looked like they'd haunt the Cowboys during their Week 7 trip to Philadelphia, and they did rear their ugly heads early. Giving up explosive plays right out of the gate, shooting themselves in the foot with ill-timed penalties, and uncharacteristic drops from the normally-reliable (except for, mysteriously, one game a year) CeeDee Lamb all set a foreboding scene in the first half of Monday night's divisional matchup.

But the Cowboys righted the ship at halftime and did just enough to pull away with an 18-point victory before the night was over. Along the way, Dak Prescott took over yet another top spot in the franchise record books, Javonte Williams had himself a monster night, and George Pickens turned in the most improbable catch of his career. And a Dallas fanbase that had previously been talking about another wasted season suddenly had statistical cause to hope for a possible playoff run.

But that defense is still awfully rough around the edges... to the tune of doing something never before seen in the 66-year history of the Cowboys.

Here's a look at some of the stats and numbers that came out of Week 7's much-needed win.

0: Plays of 20+ yards allowed after Eagles' opening drive

Saquon Barkley's 29-yard scamper- with a bad hamstring, no less- on the Eagles' second offensive play from scrimmage was disheartening, to be sure. But when Tanner McKee and Makai Lemon hooked up for a 21-yarder on the very next snap, it felt like it would be a brutal night for the porous Dallas defense. (Two plays. 50 yards. Four minutes into the game. Yikes.) Those ended up being Philadelphia's longest plays of the entire game, though; of the 59 offensive plays they would run from that point on, not a single one would go for more than 19 yards. Explosive plays have killed the Cowboys defense this season, but they found a way to keep the Eagles bottled up after some early trouble.

7: First-half penalties

The Cowboys were their own worst enemy for a good chunk of the first half of the game, getting hit with seven penalties in the first 30 minutes of play. And they seemed to come in the worst possible moments. Of the four (!) flags that awarded Philly a fresh set of downs, three of them negated 3rd- or 4th-down stops for the Dallas defense. (Two of those came on the same drive, which the Eagles eventually converted to a touchdown.) Justin Barron had a pair of costly penalties on kick returns; one brought back Tyler Goodson's 91-yard housecall. Thankfully, the Cowboys cleaned up their act at intermission; they had just one penalty the rest of the night.

14: Consecutive games allowing 20 points to opponents

Not under Jason Garrett or Dave Campo or even Chan Gailey. Not during Jimmy Johnson's 1-15 season. Not even when the franchise was starting from scratch as an expansion club. No, the Cowboys have never- in 66 years- allowed 14 straight opponents to score 20 or more points... until Monday night. All of those games have come under Brian Schottenheimer's watch, and this latest was against what was effectively the Eagles' JV offense. The last time the Dallas defense held anyone to under 20 points was Week 11 of the 2025 season versus a two-win Las Vegas team. With three of the NFL's highest-scoring offenses on the upcoming schedule, Christian Parker's defense still has along way to go.

14.9%: Completion probability of Pickens' TD catch

George Pickens's second-quarter touchdown had it all: a picture-perfect throw, an unbelievable fingertip catch, and an absurd demonstration of body control to get both sets of toes tapped down in the end zone. You weren't just imagining how special the moment was. According to Next Gen Stats, the throw was the third-most improbable completion of Prescott's entire career... and with a 14.9% completion percentage, it ranks as the most improbable catch Pickens has made as a pro.

41.7%: CeeDee Lamb's catch percentage

His two touchdown grabs in the game cut him plenty of slack, but Lamb didn't have a great night on the whole. His five receptions on 12 passes equate to a catch percentage of just 41.7%. That's among his 10 worst performances as a pro. Lamb leads the NFL in targets and is still top-three in catches, yards, and scores, so no one is worried about some larger problem. But Lamb does seem to have one game every season where he drops more balls than he hauls in; hopefully this was it for 2026.

44%: Chances of Cowboys' playoff berth after win

Yes, it's too early to legitimately be thinking about playoffs. But Monday's win did bump up the Cowboys' chances of making the dance, from 35% the day prior to 44% following the trip to Philadelphia. (And they still have a 40% chance of claiming the NFC East title, per The Athletic's NFL Playoff Simulator.) The Cowboys' odds of a postseason berth will climb to 51% with a victory over Arizona and fall to 31% with a loss, highlighting the critical importance of taking Week 8's tilt with the Cardinals very seriously.

80: Multi-TD games in Dak Prescott's career

Prescott's three touchdown throws Monday gave him his 80th career game with multiple scoring passes. Crown him the Cowboys' new franchise leader in the category; he has now surpassed Tony Romo and his 79 multi-touchdown career outings. Even more impressive, though, is Prescott's career record in away games versus the Eagles: 13 touchdowns, zero interceptions on 250 career pass attempts at Lincoln Financial Field.

155: Rushing yards from Javonte Williams

It had been over a calendar year since Williams logged a 100-yard rushing day, and by the time he was done Monday, he had himself a new personal high-water mark of 155 yards. His 25 carries versus Philly represent the second-most of his career, and his 6.2 yards-per-carry average made it a top-10 outing for the sixth-year veteran. Williams is now tied for the league lead in rushing touchdowns (eight) and sits just barely outside the top 10 in both attempts and yards.
