England star Ben Earl has found himself at the centre of a social media storm following an incident during the Nations Championship clash against Australia at Twickenham.
The Saracens back-rower is known for wearing his heart on his sleeve, but his latest antics have divided rugby supporters.
Earl was involved in a heated moment with an Australian opponent during the opening stages of the contest.
Footage of the incident quickly circulated on social media, with some fans questioning his behaviour.
Others defended the England international, suggesting his passion is exactly what Steve Borthwick's side needs.
The incident came just over three minutes into the match, after England won a scrum against the Wallabies.
Earl celebrated enthusiastically, roaring and clapping towards an Australian opponent as his teammates gathered around him.
However, the reaction didn't impress everyone.
Rugby account The Rugby Issue shared footage on X, writing:
"I will never not cringe every time I see Earl celebrating winning a scrum to this extent."
The post sparked a debate, with supporters offering some rather brutal assessments.
One fan wrote: "Celebrate like they won a world cup."
Another commented: "It's called plastic energy."
A third added: "Every time they get a turnover or a scrum you would think they have won the world cup."
One particularly unimpressed supporter wrote: "It is pathetic. It is in Saracens DNA."
Another questioned whether the behaviour was becoming a habit among England's players.
"Itoje did the same at a charge down. Must be a thing at Sarries. Not a great look. Shake a hand, clap then concentrate and get on with the game."
However, one supporter suggested Earl knew exactly what he was doing.
"Think he does it deliberately to wind up the Twitterverse at this point," they joked.
This is hardly the first time the England rugby star has attracted attention for his celebrations.
In January 2025, Earl addressed one of his most embarrassing viral moments during an appearance on Danny Care's Hits Different podcast.
The incident occurred during England's World Cup warm-up defeat against Ireland in 2023.
After Ireland were penalised for a crooked lineout throw, Earl attempted an elaborate fist pump, only for his knee to give way.
Reflecting on the incident, Earl joked: "I've got one of the great fist-pumps of our time."
However, he admitted the celebration hadn't gone entirely to plan.
"The knee slide was too much," he confessed.
Earl explained that England were struggling badly at the time, making his reaction look even more ridiculous.
"I've gone for a split-stance fist-pump, and my knee completely caved in."
He attempted to rescue the celebration by dropping onto his other knee, but the damage was already done.
Despite the embarrassment, Earl has shown little inclination to tone down his animated approach.
His latest incident against Australia suggests the Saracens star remains as passionate as ever.
For some supporters, that enthusiasm is exactly what international rugby needs.
For others, celebrating a scrum victory like a match-winning try is taking things a little too far.
