Dan Lanning and Oregon defeated Ohio State 41-28 on Saturday, and it may have been foreshadowed by an act he committed during the game.
Shortly after the Ducks’ players got into a scuffle with their Buckeyes counterparts, the head coach was spotted pointing at Ohio Stadium’s scoreboard:
And there was much ridicule from fans, albeit not in the usual way: “He might want to slow up crowing. He’s been the biggest disappointment this entire year,” one threatened.
Dylan Raiola had a good performance, completing 25 of 40 attempts for 257 yards and two touchdowns. Running back Dierre Hill Jr. also reached the end zone twice, rushing 13 times for 75 yards. Tight end Jamari Johnson also had a rushing touchdown.
Meanwhile, Luke Fahey went 36-for-50 for 360 yards and two touchdowns against one interception. Bo Jackson rushed 11 times for 48 yards and two scores.
After the game, Dan Lanning had an apt epithet for his players (via Heavy.com):
“We’re like cockroaches, man. We won’t die.”
He continued: “Our guys have been battle-tested, so they don’t, again, in those moments, they don’t blink,” Lanning continued. “And we don’t really look at the scoreboard. We just focus on working. And I thought they did that tonight.” Oregon takes on Michigan a week from now. Kickoff is at 12:30 p.m. PT.
