The New York Giants submitted a waiver claim for running back Robert Henry Jr. after the Seattle Seahawks released him on Monday, reports Ben Standig.
New York was the only other team to place a claim on the 24-year-old undrafted rookie, though the Washington Commanders ultimately secured him.
For the division-leading Giants, the move reflected interest in adding a young, explosive option to the running back room. Cam Skattebo remains the primary back, with Devin Singletary behind him and Tyrone Tracy Jr. currently on injured reserve (IR).
Henry’s profile offered the kind of depth the organization has shown a willingness to evaluate throughout the season.
Henry began his college career at Jones College before transferring to UTSA, where he rushed for 1,045 yards and nine touchdowns at 6.9 yards per carry in his final season. He signed with Washington as an undrafted free agent in May, flashed in the preseason with a 12-carry, 75-yard, one-touchdown performance against the Dolphins, and later spent a brief stretch on Seattle’s roster without appearing in a regular-season game.
While the claim did not succeed, it highlights the Giants’ continued attention to available talent behind their current group and amid their ongoing pursuit of Jonathan Taylor.
