Manchester United co-owner Avram Glazer has made a rare comment about the club, saying that poor performances on the pitch won't impact its commercial power. United currently sit in 17th place in the Premier League table, only outside of the bottom three on goal difference.

They recorded their first win in 10 on Tuesday night, easing some of the pressure on manager Michael Carrick. They came from 2-0 down against AS Roma in the Champions League to win 3-2.

Despite the victory, the game saw fans chant against the Glazers, Sir Jim Ratcliffe and club executives. They also did the same during Premier League defeats against Bournemouth and Chelsea.

Despite the poor form and performances, the eldest Glazer has reportedly given assurances about United's brand, which helps to bring big money into the club. He was speaking at Deutsche Bank's inaugural Sports Investment Conference in London in September, where he addressed an audience of financiers.

According to The Athletic, Glazer said that United's commercial pull is not dependent on results on the pitch. He is said to have compared the club to the New York Yankees and Dallas Cowboys, who are still seen as major global brands despite a lack of sporting success in recent years.

Fans have called for the Glazers to sell up for the last few years, but a reported lack of market interest has prevented any sale. However, two possible situations could encourage the family to change their minds.

According to ESPN, they are the completion of the new Old Trafford, or Manchester City being expelled from the Premier League. United's City rivals are awaiting the outcome of their appeal against a guilty verdict on 114 breaches of Premier League financial rules.

One of the punishments, if the appeal is unsuccessful, could include expulsion from the league. The club could also be handed a huge points deduction, which would virtually relegate them to the Championship for at least a season.

The new stadium, or City's demise, would lead to a rise in United's valuation, which could then encourage the Glazers to sell the club. It's added that the family are frustrated with the club's direction following Ratcliffe's investment.

United are on their third permanent manager since 2023, when Ratcliffe invested in the club. The club sacked Erik ten Hag just months after handing the Dutchman a new contract.

Ruben Amorim was in the job for just over a year before being sacked last January. He was replaced by Carrick, first on an interim basis, before his role was made permanent in the summer. All three managers have been heavily backed in the transfer market, with many of the big-money arrivals failing to impress at the club.
