Taunton Town were dumped out of the FA Trophy on a soggy and windy afternoon at Wordsworth Drive on Saturday (October 24).
Despite concerns over the weather, the game went ahead, showing how far the pitch has come in the last couple of seasons.
Manager Gary Johnson was looking to carry the momentum from a 4-0 home win over Bracknell Town in the league in the previous game and named an unchanged starting XI, meaning home fans got their first glimpse of Tylor Love-Holmes, on loan from Truro City.
The game started poorly for the home side and Wimborne were awarded a penalty on 15 minutes and Joe Smith converted to give the away side the lead.
Wimborne remained in the ascendancy and on 24 minutes Freddie Godden had to save a header from a corner to keep it to 1-0.
The first effort of note from Taunton came half an hour in as Gabe Billington had an effort from outside the box which the goalkeeper saved comfortably.
Five minutes before the break, Wimborne extended their lead as Max Bustamante scored for the visitors.
Manager Gary Johnson picked up a yellow card before half time but it remained 0-2 at half time.
Shortly after the break it was head of football Lloyd Irish’s turn to receive a yellow on the sidelines but a couple of minutes later, Taunton Town had a route back into the game as Max Davies made it three goals in three games.
But hope lasted all of two minutes as Joe Smith chipped Godden to re-establish the two-goal deficit.
Taunton went in search of an equaliser, sending Jack Rice on to try and inject some urgency.
Jay Murray then had a couple of chances to score and with 10 minutes to go Murray won a free kick which Alfie Moulden could only test the goalkeeper with.
The Peacocks conceded another penalty with five minutes to go and Freddie Godden was given a red card in the aftermath.
Lloyd Irish then came on in goal with Ben Seymour being sacrificed.
The penalty hit the bar.
Taunton then went up the other end and Max Davies won a spot kick for the home side.
Jack Rice took it but it was saved.
Into stoppage time and Wimborne added a fourth through Cam Munn and they advance in the FA Trophy.
