The Seattle Seahawks stand to benefit from pursuing free-agent wide receiver Darius Slayton, whose speed and experience figure to complement superstar WR Jaxon Smith-Njigba and provide quarterback Sam Darnold with another reliable target down the field.
Slayton was released by the New York Giants earlier this year after a long career with the team, and also had a short stint with the Indianapolis Colts that recently came to an end, sending him back into free agency.
The veteran Slayton has recorded 4,435 career receiving yards and 22 touchdowns. His best seasons included 740 receiving yards as a rookie in 2019, 751 yards in 2020, 724 in 2022 and 770 in 2023. After recording 538 yards in his last season played in 2025, Slayton has demonstrated the ability to produce at a level expected of a secondary receiver. Although his recent production has dipped, his previous performances suggest that he may still be able to contribute meaningfully in the right situation.
Seattle's receiving corp outside of the MVP candidate Smith-Njigba includes Rashid Shaheed, Cooper Kupp and tight end AJ Barner, who have recorded 162, 179 and 138 receiving yards, respectively, this season. Adding a receiver with the potential to reach 700 yards or more may help balance the passing attack opposite Smith-Njigba.
Slayton ideally fits best as an outside receiver who is capable of stretching defenses vertically, opening up opportunities for Smith-Njigba and creating opportunities for Darnold on intermediate and deep throws. His track record makes him a worthwhile option for Seattle to pursue to strengthen its Super Bowl chances.
