Manchester United's players faced jeers from fellow passengers after road congestion delayed their London-bound train. United manager Michael Carrick, along with the club's staff and squad, travelled to the capital on Friday afternoon in preparation for Saturday's 12:30pm kick-off against Chelsea.

Following standard protocol for United, they caught the train at Stockport for their journey down to London. However, complications arose when, according to The Overlap, United were held up on their approach to the station due to traffic.

The train, which had departed from Manchester Piccadilly, was forced to wait so that United wouldn't miss their connection.

When they finally boarded, certain players were reportedly met with boos. Carrick, however, received a cheer after the seven-minute hold-up.

Yet there were similarities to when United's players were booed off by frustrated home supporters following their dismal 3-0 defeat to Bournemouth at Old Trafford last Sunday - after those same fans had sung Carrick's name as he departed the pitch, reports the Mirror.

It had been widely expected that Carrick would face the sack following Sunday's loss, which left his side on an eight-match winless streak and with just one triumph in the Premier League this campaign.

The Red Devils have, nevertheless, opted to persist with the 45-year-old - though for how much longer remains uncertain.

"I don't need any assurances from anyone," Carrick told reporters on Thursday. "I totally get the position. I understand the job.

"I understand the responsibilities. I understand what comes with that. So, I really don't need any assurances from anyone in that regard."

The United manager added: "I don't see it (the criticism) really. I see the things that I need to see. I don't look for it. It doesn't really help in any way.

"I've said it before, I care about what the supporters think, I care about what it feels like in the stadium and them travelling for games to us to come and see us and support us. I care about what we give them and what we offer them and what they see.

"I genuinely don't take any notice of anything else. I know this job, I know what it brings, I know what we need to do, really, to be better. I don't need anyone else to tell me anything else."
