Since he stepped away from playing in the NFL in June, 10-time Pro Bowler Russell Wilson has made a splash as a broadcast analyst for CBS Sports. A clip of Wilson picking the Denver Broncos to win their Week 8 clash against the Kansas City Chiefs, complete with a tongue-in-cheek jab aimed at coach Sean Payton, recently drew attention on social media.

NFL fans on X pinpointed the clip and applauded the former Seattle Seahawks quarterback’s ease in front of a camera.

NFL Fans Laud Russell Wilson’s Broadcasting Nous

Analyst Will Petersen said Wilson came across as more likable in the clip than he did during his tenure in Denver.

“Russell Wilson way more likable in this 40-second clip than he was his entire tenure in Denver,” Petersen wrote.

One fan found Wilson’s Broncos pick refreshing.

“I don’t know why, but this was refreshing to hear from Russ and him picking the Broncos,” the fan posted.

Another fan praised Wilson’s post-playing media presence.

“Russ has been such a breath of fresh air post-retirement,”the fan remarked.

One fan believed Wilson’s television presence was good for the NFL.

“Russ gone Russ!! He’s HOLLYWOOD!! Good for the NFL!!” The fan commented.

Another fan declared that the former Broncos quarterback was built for television.

“Russ was made for TV!” The fan posted.

Wilson’s pick panned out as quarterback Bo Nix led the Broncos to a 28-24 Week 8 win. He further made the pick iconic by tossing the ball over 30 yards and hitting the goalpost, much to the amusement of his fellow broadcasters.

After being selected No. 75 overall in the 2012 NFL Draft by the Seahawks, the former Wisconsin Badgers standout established himself as one of the league’s greatest dual-threat quarterbacks. Wilson led the Seahawks to a dominant Super Bowl win in just his second season in the NFL and a repeat appearance in the showpiece event a year later.

He joined the Broncos in 2022 after 10 seasons with the Seahawks, playing under Payton for one of his two seasons in Denver, and left the franchise under a cloud in 2024 following his benching in late 2023.

During the sunset years of his NFL career, Wilson played for the Pittsburgh Steelers and New York Giants for one season each.

The one-time second-team AP All-Pro quarterback finally stepped away from playing in June despite receiving an offer to become the New York Jets’ backup QB and joined CBS Sports. Wilson replaced Matt Ryan as a full-time studio analyst on “The NFL Today” show, working alongside Bill Cowher, Kyle Long, Nate Burleson, and James Brown.
