The Arizona Cardinals are feeling a little better right now. They won on Sunday, beating the Dallas Cowboys. They have a new starting quarterback in Gardner Minshew, and that has given the building and the fan base some energy.
It helped them move up a little in the latest NFL power rankings from USA TODAY's Nate Davis.
The Cardinals moved up three slots from No. 26 to No. 23.
"If you guys have ever seen 'Napoleon Dynamite,' I've always known (Gardner Minshew) could throw a pigskin a quarter mile," DL L.J. Collier said after Sunday's upset of the Cowboys. "Minshew Magic is real." Nothing further to add here about the Cards' new QB1.
While 23rd is certainly not a good ranking, they are ranked above all the teams that look like disasters. They find themselves among the regular not-so-good teams who have good games once in a while.
However, they find themselves currently in a bit of a purgatory. Their record has them two games out of the playoff picture but five spots in the standing back, and they aren't bad enough to have a top-10 pick in the 2027 NFL draft.
With a tough three-game schedule coming against the Seattle Seahawks, LA Rams and Kansas City Chiefs, we will know better in a couple of weeks whether the Cardinals have turned a corner or if they will fade away into badness.
The San Francisco 49ers, on their bye in Week 8, remain at No. 1.
The Seattle Seahawks fell from No. 4 to No. 9.
The LA Rams went from No. 13 to No. 12.
The Cardinals, as noted, went from No. 26 to No. 23.
