Morgan Gibbs-White's home burgled as Oliver Glasner issues support to Nottingham Forest star

The home of Nottingham Forest ace Morgan Gibbs-White was burgled recently

Head coach Oliver Glasner has shown his support for Morgan Gibbs-White after the Nottingham Forest ace’s home was burgled.

Gibbs-White’s partner, Britney De Villiers, described the “unsettling” ordeal on Instagram earlier this week. She urged her social media followers to stay “vigilant” after the couple’s house was “violated” recently.

Neither the couple nor their two young sons were home at the time. Glasner made sure to check in with the Reds star and says the incident put last week’s 1-1 draw with Ipswich Town into perspective.

“The positive thing is nobody was at home when it happened - not the kids, not his partner and not him - so that’s the positive. I spoke to him and he’s OK,” the Forest boss said.

“When things like this happen it can make you feel not quite so comfortable at home, but he’s OK and everybody is fine. It makes you realise, OK, a draw at Ipswich is not the most important thing in life. Nothing happened with him or his family, and that’s the most important thing.”

Gibbs-White’s fiancee had said on her Instagram story: “I wasn’t going to publicly share this but our home was burgled a few days ago and after hearing about another one since, I feel it’s important to just warn others. It’s incredibly unsettling knowing that homes are being targeted.

“Please be extra vigilant, make sure your security systems are on whether you’re in the house or not and report anything suspicious. Thankfully, nobody was home when it happened and material things can be replaced but it’s a horrible feeling knowing someone has violated your home, especially when you have young children. Please stay safe and look out for one another.”

Gibbs-White has continued to be a talismanic figure for Forest this term, even if he has not been quite at his mercurial best so far. Helping the playmaker get back to top form is the challenge for Glasner, who is convinced there is much more to come from his No.10.

The Reds head to Brentford on Saturday (3pm kick-off) looking to register only their second Premier League win of the season. They currently find themselves in the relegation zone after an underwhelming start to the campaign.

“It is sometimes felt that the new system does not get the best out of him, but it is the complete opposite,” Glasner said of Gibbs-White. “He can be a better Morgan Gibbs-White than he was last season, even. It is just that when you create the chances, you need the ones who convert them to do so.

“Against Tottenham he was twice one-v-one with the keeper. He had a big chance at both Ipswich and at Palace. He gets chances himself and he creates a lot. We will help him to be even better. He always has a great effort and he is always a crucial player for us.”

Forest are still getting used to playing a different system under Glasner. Gibbs-White has been one of the first names on the team-sheet as one of the two 10s behind a striker.

Glasner said: “It is not that he has had to adapt. It is more in the mind of a player. At the end of last season, when he scored many of his goals, he was playing almost as an inverted left winger. Now you might call his current role a half 10, but to me it is the exact same position.

“He has complete freedom over where to move. He can play off the flank. He can overload. He has all the freedom in the attack. We all count on his creativity to find the space; to find the gaps and arrive in dangerous areas. He can see the spare player.

“We see potential in his positioning, particularly out of possession. He can get into better situations. He will have a great season.”
