Strahinja Pavlovic commented on his positioning when Bournemouth’s free-kick went in, admitting that he made a big mistake.
It wasn’t an easy evening for Milan at Vitality Stadium, conceding the opener just six minutes into the game. Clumsy defending from Koni De Winter led to that penalty, and 20 minutes later, Mike Maignan took things to a new level with his red card.
2-0 down with 30 minutes on the clock, in other words, and Bournemouth were able to coast to victory in the second half. They even added a third goal which, much like the first two ones, was the result of an individual mistake.
Lorenzo Torriani, who came on to replace Maignan, set up the wall pretty well but Pavlovic jumped to the side when the free-kick was taken. Right where he was supposed to be, the ball went through and thus left the goalkeeper with no chance.
Speaking to Sky Italia afterwards, Pavlovic was asked about that particular moment and he also got to see a replay of it. He admitted that it was terrible defending on his part, making it much easier for the Bournemouth man to find the back of the net.
You opened up too much on the free-kick that made it 3-0…
“Yes, well, there’s not much to say. It’s ugly to see. At the time I thought the shot was a little higher, but looking at it again now, it’s clear that it was a wall positioning error,” he stated.
