Pedro Porro has been one of Tottenham Hotspur’s key players in the last few seasons. He was part of the Lilywhites’ side that narrowly avoided relegation last term.

The right-back signed a new deal in N17 before winning the World Cup with Spain over the summer. Despite penning fresh terms, there has been speculation surrounding Porro’s future. Recently, the defender expressed his delight at the club for handing him a new deal but, at the same time, made it public that he wants to return to his homeland at some point in his career.

As a result, Spurs have started scouring the market for a new right-back ahead of the winter transfer window. And they have now been linked with a move for a former Premier League star.

Tottenham explore shock January move for Real Madrid full-back

Recent reports have linked Real Madrid right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold with a shock move to Tottenham. Roberto De Zerbi’s club are exploring the possibility of bringing the England international back to the Premier League when the winter window opens.

Trent Alexander-Arnold has yet to stamp his authority in Spain since his move from Liverpool last summer. After playing second fiddle to Dani Carvajal for portions of last season, the 28-year-old played a similar role this time around after head coach Jose Mourinho signed Denzel Dumfries from Inter Milan in the summer transfer window.

He has endured a further demotion at the right-back spot after Mourinho has opted to play central midfielder Federico Valverde in the position in recent weeks. With just three league starts to his name this season, rumours of a potential exit has ramped up lately.

Liverpool enter race for Alexander-Arnold

However, Tottenham are unlikely to have a free run at the Real Madrid defender. According to a report from Spanish outlet Cadena SER, Liverpool are now weighing up a move to bring back Alexander-Arnold. They are understood to be sounding out the player’s representatives about a possible loan offer to Real Madrid in January.

Alexander-Arnold had a highly successful tenure at Anfield, making over 350 appearances across all competitions for the club after coming through the academy. The English star won every major club trophy available during his time with the Reds before moving to Madrid in 2025. However, the 28-year-old’s dream of representing Madrid has turned into a nightmare, with the ex-Liverpool ace a lowly third choice in his position right now.

The report adds that Mourinho isn’t bothered about keeping Alexander-Arnold, as the Madrid boss has identified Porro as his replacement.

Meanwhile, Ronald Araujo, who arrived on loan from Barcelona in the summer, has cemented his spot at right-back under Andoni Iraola. The Uruguayan international has been lauded for his performances, but Jeremie Frimpong’s persistent injury problems has perhaps led to the Merseysiders vying for the services of Alexander-Arnold.

If Alexander-Arnold pushes to leave Madrid in the New Year, and Liverpool opens the door for a return, Tottenham will have to fight tooth and nail to retain Porro.
