Jack Nicklaus won The Masters a record six times throughout his illustrious career.
Nicklaus has the best major record in the history of the sport, with 18 to his name.
Meanwhile, Wyndham Clark has two major victories to his name so far – both at the US Open.
Clark is obviously not in the same league as Nicklaus, and perhaps he needs to change his approach to the majors if he is to start winning them with any kind of regularity.
We are already dreaming about Thursday at Augusta National!
Nicklaus famously knew that he had 90% of the field he played against beat before he even teed up his ball at major championships.
He believed that his incredibly diligent preparation when heading into the majors always gave him an edge over his competitors.
And back in 2024, the Golden Bear was confused by something he heard Wyndham Clark say ahead of The Masters.
Ahead of The Masters in 2024, Clark was asked how he feels pulling up to Augusta National ahead of competing in the first major of the year.

“You know, I treat it, honestly, like any other tournament,“ Clark said.
“I mean, I know this is the premier tournament in golf and at the most iconic venue, and, yeah, I would love to have a great week. But at the same time, I am a rookie in this event.
“So I’m trying not to put the expectations too high, and I really do just want to enjoy it. My first goal is to be mentally ready for day one. So I’m not thinking about the tournament as a whole, just more focusing on my round one on Thursday and then focus on Friday and Saturday and Sunday.“
However, Nicklaus did not like what he heard from the now two-time US Open champion.
“If you treat The Masters like another event, then I don’t think you are going to want to win The Masters. The U.S. Open, the Open Championship, the PGA, you treat those tournaments like special events and prepare like they are special events,” Nicklaus said.
“You can only prepare so many times per year and have that kind of concentration. I think when you get to The Masters, it’s a special event, prepare for it like you really want to win it.”
Deep down, the best players in the world surely all treat The Masters differently to any other event. Perhaps Wyndham Clark didn’t want to come out and say that and, by doing so, he alleviated some of the pressure on him heading into the tournament.
