Lamine Yamal smashes Kylian Mbappe’s elite Champions League record

Yamal pounced on a Villa error, as Joao Gomes passed the ball straight to him whilst trying to play out from a goal kick.

The Spain star took full advantage, cutting inside and finding the bottom corner with a trademark effort.

And in doing so, he incredibly took his tally in the Champions League to 14 goals whilst still under the age of 20.

This saw Yamal become the highest scoring teenager ever in Europe's premier competition, overtaking Kylian Mbappe.

The pair previously shared the record, with France superstar Mbappe netting 13 goals as a teenager for Monaco and Paris Saint-Germain respectively.

It marks yet another impressive piece of history for Yamal, who became the youngest player to register 25 Champions League goal contributions by assisting twice against Galatasaray in October.

His goal against Aston Villa saw him continue his stunning start to the season, with this his 13th goal in 15 games in all competitions.

Three of these efforts have come in the Champions League, while he boasts a further four assists in Europe, and 11 overall.

Yamal's goals kickstarted an enjoyable evening for Barcelona, as Raphinha then grabbed two more goals to seal a comfortable win against Premier League Villa.

This was the teenager's first European outing since he missed out on this year's Ballon d'Or.

Yamal was tipped for football's most prestigious individual award alongside Bayern Munich and England talisman Harry Kane, but it was the Englishman who ultimately won the prize.

Instead, the Barca youngster was recognised with the Kopa trophy, an award for the best young talent, for the third successive year.

He was nominated after a memorable 2025/26 campaign, where he won LaLiga and helped Spain to World Cup glory.

Yamal came third in the Ballon d’Or voting, with Real Madrid and France megastar Mbappe in second.

Not everyone was best pleased with him missing out though, as the player's uncle reacted angrily on Spanish TV after watching Kane named the winner, insisting his nephew deserved the award.

Barcelona were hosting Villa on Tuesday in the Champions League at the Nou Camp in their fourth match in the league format.
