Liverpool are weighing up a move to sign Brighton goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen in the summer transfer window, according to reports.
The Reds spent £30m on bringing Giorgi Mamardashvili to Liverpool from Valencia in the summer of 2025 to be Alisson’s long-term successor.
Andoni Iraola has chosen to stick with Alisson as their number one after Liverpool reportedly convinced Alisson to snub interest from elsewhere to stay one more year.
Despite Mamardashvili being brought in to potentially replace the Brazil international down the line, TEAMtalk revealed on Friday that the Georgia international is ‘not currently viewed as the long-term replacement for Alisson’.
The website also claimed that Aston Villa goalkeeper Zion Suzuki is already catching the eye of Liverpool and other top clubs after his impressive start to life in the Premier League.
But now Football Insider insists that Liverpool have decided to ‘turn attention to’ Brighton goalkeeper Verbruggen with the Netherlands international still only 24.
Football Insider journalist Pete O’Rourke said: “Liverpool, like all the top clubs, will be doing homework on a number of players and they’ll have contingency plans in place.
“I’m sure all the top clubs across Europe, including Liverpool, will be keeping tabs on Verbruggen because he’s a top quality player and he continues to show that for Brighton.
“He’s still only 24, playing regularly in the Premier League, and he’s a regular in the Netherlands national team as well.
“So it will be more than just Liverpool who will be keeping tabs on him, but he is certainly somebody they could look at if they are forced to sign a replacement for Alisson.”
One player that is currently giving Liverpool “concerns” going forward is left-back Milos Kerkez but that Iraola still has “big hopes” for the Hungary international.
O’Rourke added: “I think there’s a few concerns, there’s no doubt about it, in that left back position with Milos Kerkez.
“Kerkez was obviously bought in the previous summer for big money, but maybe he has failed to convince a lot of Liverpool fans with his performances.
“You’ve got to remember, he’s still only 22, so still a young player who has come to a club with big aspirations, so he will be given a bit of time.
“He does try and give his all, but maybe he’s lacking in quality with his final ball and everything else, so that has been a bit of a frusration.
“But he’s now working under a manager who got the best out of him at Bournemouth, who helped him win that big money move to Liverpool in the first place.
“So, I’m sure Andoni Iraola still has big hopes that Kerkez can come good at Anfield, and they will be working with him to get back to his best.”
