Yankees legend says he does not 'feel welcome' by team despite legendary career

The five-time World Series champion and Monument Park honoree attended the stadium just twice this season

A New York Yankees legend feels he is getting the cold shoulder from what was once his everyday.

Jorge Posada spent his entire 17-year career in the Bronx, winning five World Series and later having his number retired in Monument Park.

However, despite the constant love from the fans, Posada does not get the same feeling from the organization.

Posada was asked if he felt he could be a Yankees presence today — perhaps on the coaching staff — when he dropped the stunner.

"I could [be around more], but I don’t think they want me there to tell you the truth. I don’t feel welcome when I go there, you know?" Posada told the New York Post on Tuesday.

"Even in spring training, I don’t feel like — I’m just like, I don’t know, like, I don’t feel welcome. I don’t feel like they want me there, so I don’t go."

Posada's legendary Yankees career did not end on the best of notes, as the former full-time catcher was shifted to the team's designated hitter and backup first baseman in his final season, leading to public disagreements. At one point, Posada requested to be taken out of the lineup after he was penciled to bat ninth.

"I don’t know what happened. I’d rather just move forward. My last season of my career was a really tough one when it comes to handling everything in my part and also the Yankees toward Jorge Posada. So, it’s tough to go back and feel that again," Posada said.

After that 2011 season, Posada said he received interest from several teams but not the Yankees — he retired the following January.

It was initially believed that Posada and then-manager Joe Girardi, who were teammates in the late 90s, had a rift, but Posada nixed that notion.

"I don’t have an issue or a problem with Joe," Posada said, noting that he "never got a chance to fight for my job."

Posada attended Yankee Stadium twice this season — once for Old Timers' Day in August, and another on the 25th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks during the Subway Series.
