Newcastle United defender Amar Dedic found himself at the centre of a major police response on Wednesday afternoon.
The £30million summer signing found himself targeted by Northumbria Police after a concerned member of the public spotted him and a friend carrying a bow and arrows in the Northumberland countryside.
Officers were dispatched to Harlow Hill, 12 miles from Newcastle-upon-Tyne city centre, before eventually stopping Dedic and his friend in the Darras Hall area.
The incident was first reported in the Daily Mail, which claimed Newcastle goalkeeper Mark Gillespie and former defender Paul Dummett arrived on the scene by sheer coincidence to offer assistance.
Northumbria Police have since released a statement that the seized bow and arrows were suspected to be for ‘recreational use’ and of no threat to the public following an investigation.
"Shortly after 1.55pm (on Wednesday), we received a report of two men carrying a bow and arrows while walking along a track by the reservoir on Military Road in the Harlow Hill area," a Northumbria Police spokesperson said.
"Officers attended and subsequently stopped a vehicle in the Darras Hall area and seized a bow and arrows.
"At this stage, it is understood they were for recreational use and there was no threat to the public. Inquiries are ongoing."
Dedic is unlikely to face disciplinary action from Newcastle as a result of his run-in with the law this week. The 24-year-old is expected to travel with the first-team to Fulham on Saturday afternoon (3pm kick-off).
