Former India National Cricket Team batter Ajinkya Rahane picked an all-time ODI eleven with only underrated cricketers from different nations. Instead of mentioning the legendary figures of the game, Rahane was asked to name only those players who deserved more applause during their days as active cricketers.
In a Cricbuzz video, Ajinkya Rahane named his favourite underrated playing eleven with only two former Team India cricketers. As the topic of the video was to mention only the underrated ones, for that reason, most of the celebrated names were missing from the video.
Rahane started the video by mentioning Graeme Smith and Nathan Astle. As Smith was a left-handed opener, Ajinkya Rahane chose Astle to keep a left-arm-right-arm combination at the top of the batting order.
"For me, the openers are Graeme Smith, just a solid left-handed opener. I personally like him. The second one is Nathan Astle, a very aggressive batter. So, it's a left-hand-right-hand combination.
The recently retired Indian batter picked Suresh Raina for the No.3 batting slot. He named the former left-hander because of his ability to play well under any conditions. For the number four batting slot, Rahane went with the legendary Aravinda de Silva.
"Number three for me is Suresh Raina, again a left-hander and a very classy batter who plays well in all conditions. So, Suresh Raina is my number three. Number four would be Aravinda de Silva, an all-time great but also a very underrated player who played some crucial knocks for Sri Lanka. So, Suresh Raina and Aravinda de Silva are my picks," Ajinkya Rahane added.
For the wicketkeeper spot, Rahane turned his eyes to South Africa to pick Mark Boucher. Along with keeping, Boucher was known for his impactful batting abilities from the middle of the batting order.
"My wicketkeeper is Mark Boucher because he was really good at batting at number five and six, and his contributions at those positions were very important. Mark Boucher is my choice," he continued.
To keep balance and batting depth in the team, the former batter named the former pace-bowling all-rounder Abdul Razzaq, and as a finisher, he named former Team India cricketer Robin Singh.
"My all-rounder is Abdul Razzaq, who could bat at number six and seven and also bowl at good pace. His aggressive approach with both bat and ball makes him the right fit for those positions. My finisher is Robin Singh. He could come in at that position and play aggressive cricket. He was also a very good fielder," Rahane expressed.
For the rest of the team, Ajinkya Rahane selected two spinners and two pacers. For the spin bowling department, he selected Daniel Vettori and Graeme Swann, and for the pace department, Rahane's choices were Shane Bond and Chaminda Vaas.
"I have two spinners. The first one is Daniel Vettori, a classical left-arm spinner with good control over the ball. He also contributed with the bat. The second spinner is Graeme Swann, a top-class off-spinner and a wicket-taker. I feel these two players did a fantastic job for their respective teams," Rahane opined.
"I have two places for fast bowlers. The first one is Shane Bond, who bowled with good control and pace and could swing the ball both ways. The second one is Chaminda Vaas, a left-arm swing bowler. Having a left-arm pacer in the XI is really important. He bowled with great control and discipline and was a consistent wicket-taker."
