The Arizona Cardinals not only benched quarterback Jacoby Brissett. They are trading him away. Per multiple reports, the Cardinals are finalizing a deal to trade Brissett to the Baltimore Ravens. The deal should be finalized this weekend.
The Ravens have a critical quarterback situation this week. Starting quarterback Lamar Jackson suffered a thumb injury that is expected to sideline him for the rest of the season. His backup, Tyler Huntley, suffered turf toe and will miss the rest of the season. Joe Fagnano will start for the Ravens on Thursday. They added former Cardinals backup quarterback Kedon Slovis this week.
Brissett was benched in the third quarter of the Cardinals' 33-30 overtime win over the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday. He was moved to third on the depth chart on Monday. Now he will head to the Ravens.
With the deal expected to be finalized sometime after Thursday's game for Baltimore, Brissett will have a minibye and an extra day to prepare, as the Ravens play on Monday night in Week 10.
Baltimore's quarterbacks coach is Israel Woolfork, who was the quarterbacks coach for the Cardinals last year when Birssett started the final 12 games.
Compensation has not been reported, but the Ravens will assume the remainder of his contract. He is due $4.85 million in salary for the rest of the season.
Through eight games this season, Brissett completed 63.3% of his passes for 1,719 yards, 10 touchdowns and seven interceptions. He averaged 5.6 yards per attempt and had a quarterback rating of 79.7.
In 20 starts for the Cardinals, he went 4-16, although the fourth win came after he was benched when the Cardinals trailed by 14 points and Gardner Minshew led the comeback.
