Charlie Kelman fired the hosts ahead early in the first half as the Addicks looked to end a run of eight games without a win. However, Paris Maghoma drew City level on 35 minutes with a neat finish from a tight angle.
Norwich, who were also desperate to halt a run of five consecutive league defeats, took the lead early in the second half when Mathias Kvistgaarden met Ruairi McConville's cross with a powerful header.
Substitute Anthony Musaba then helped put the result beyond doubt in the final 15 minutes, with his dangerous cross taking a deflection off Ivan Mesik and finding its way past Arthur Okonkwo.
The visitors had further opportunities to extend their advantage in the closing stages as they returned to winning ways and made it five consecutive victories at The Valley.
Philippe Clement made three changes to the side beaten by Portsmouth last weekend, with Harry Darling, Kvistgaarden and Maghoma all returning to the starting XI.
Daniel Grimshaw retained his place between the sticks ahead of the returning Vladan Kovacevic, while skipper Kenny McLean was back among the substitutes after missing the previous three games with an ankle injury.

On a bitterly cold afternoon in South London, the hosts made a fast start. Inside the opening minute, Tyreece Campbell raced through one-on-one after latching onto a long ball in behind the Norwich defence.
Grimshaw reacted sharply to deny the Jamaican international from point-blank range with a crucial early save. Sonny Carey then saw his effort blocked as the Addicks looked the more threatening side in the opening exchanges.
Yet Norwich thought they had taken the lead just five minutes in. A swift counter-attacking move saw Kvistgaarden get a shot away, only for his effort to be blocked. From the recycled ball, Pelle Mattsson threaded a pass through to Jack Stacey, who finished neatly, but celebrations were cut short by the offside flag.
That response to a sluggish start from Clement’s men proved short-lived, however, as Charlton struck first on 10 minutes.
Darling gifted possession to Kayne Ramsey in a dangerous area while attempting to find Oscar Schwartau. Ramsey moved the ball on to Joe Rankin-Costello, who picked out Kelman. After taking a touch to round the advancing Grimshaw, the striker thundered the ball into the net to give the hosts an early advantage.
The intensity and purpose shown by Nathan Jones’ side continued, with City second best across the pitch.
Against the run of play, Kvistgaarden was then sent through on goal, but the Dane hesitated too long before getting his shot away. That gave the retreating Billy Koumetio time to recover and make a vital interception.
The chance offered signs of encouragement for the visitors, who gradually began to find their rhythm. Their improvement was rewarded on 35 minutes as they drew level.

Kvistgaarden played an important role in holding the ball up before picking out Maghoma with a well-weighted pass into space on the right.
Maghoma drove into the penalty area before unleashing a fierce finish from an angle, finding the top-left corner to send the 3,000 travelling supporters wild.
The equaliser was met with visible frustration in the home stands, with Charlton enduring a poor winless run of their own.
Norwich pushed for a second before the interval and fashioned a handful of half-chances, but neither side could find another breakthrough before the referee brought the first half to a close with the scores level.
Clement made a change at the break, introducing the experienced McLean in place of Mattsson, and the substitute was involved almost immediately.
McLean picked out the advancing Stacey down the right, who laid the ball off to Maghoma. His cross found Andre Brooks in space inside the box, but the winger could only fire wide despite having a glorious opportunity to score.
That miss did little to dampen City's spirits, and they took the lead just five minutes into the second half.
McConville was the architect, having remained upfield following a corner. The Northern Irishman delivered a hanging cross from the left, which found Kvistgaarden unmarked at the back post. The striker made no mistake, powering his free header past Okonkwo to put City in front.
The goal was greeted by boos from the home supporters, and they responded by pushing forward in search of an equaliser. Campbell was the first to threaten, beating Stacey before seeing his effort narrowly miss the target after taking a deflection.
Charlton looked to have drawn level from the resulting delivery. Lloyd Jones and McConville challenged for the ball, with the Norwich man appearing to get the final touch as he headed into his own goal. However, the linesman's flag went up, with Jones seemingly caught narrowly offside.

Norwich soon threatened at the other end, with two promising opportunities in quick succession. Schwartau saw his angled effort well smothered by Okonkwo before Kvistgaarden fired over on the volley after bringing a bouncing ball under control on the edge of the box.
Campbell continued to pose a threat for the hosts and led a quick break midway through the half before finding Kelman. The goalscorer got his shot away, but Grimshaw reacted well to smother the effort and prevent him from adding a second.
Clement turned to his bench again in the 75th minute, introducing Musaba and Jovon Makama in a double substitution that would soon pay dividends.
Musaba made an immediate impact, taking on the Charlton defender down the right just seconds after coming on. After twisting his way past his marker, he drilled a powerful cross towards Makama at the back post.
The ball took a touch off Mesik before rolling over the line, giving City a crucial two-goal cushion.
Musaba was straight back on the attack following Charlton's kick-off, driving towards the home defence before firing into the side netting.
The Canaries continued to dominate in the closing stages, with Jacob Wright curling an effort towards the far corner in stoppage time. Okonkwo was forced into action to push the ball away, before Musaba came close to adding a fourth late on.
The winger got his effort away from close range, but the home stopper reacted well to save at his feet.
The victory lifts Norwich to 18th in the Championship table ahead of the 3pm kick-offs.
City will look to build on the result when they return to action next Saturday lunchtime, hosting struggling Watford at Carrow Road.

35: 1-1 GOAL CITY (Maghoma). Mathias Kvistgaarden did well to hold up the ball just inside the Charlton half before threading a pass through to Paris Maghoma. The attacking midfielder drove into the space behind the defence and, from a tight angle, found the far top corner with an excellent finish.
