Parkinson wants Wrexham to match Boro display against Wolves

The Reds produced one of their best performances of the season and won 2-0 at home to Championship leaders Middlesbrough on Wednesday, with second-half goals from George Thomason and Ollie Rathbone securing a much-needed victory.

Wrexham, up to 16th position, now face another stern against Wolves who sit second following their 2-1 come-from-behind success away to Bristol City in midweek.

Relegated from the Premier League last season, Wolves are in a rich vein of form but Parkinson insists Wrexham head into the game full of confidence after proving they can compete with the best teams in the division following their brilliant win over Boro.

"Fantastic, what a game for us," said the Reds' boss.

"Let's get one thing right, they've had a tough game as well.

"We're at home and they've got to travel back from Bristol, let's get ready and pick the team.

"We'll have a good look at them. I saw them live against Portsmouth and I've got a good understanding of what they're all about.

"Obviously, they've got Premier League players, but Middlesbrough are flying high and everyone's been talking about them, but you wouldn't have thought that tonight.

"Now it's up to us to get the structure right and look at the detail of what we need to do, it is important we make sure the values are in the performance."

Parkinson felt the performance against Boro showed exactly what his side are capable of when effort and commitment are matched with quality.

"We've got got heart in the club and it took me a while last year to get the new players to understand what playing for Wrexham is all about," he said.

"We had it in patches and then we got it consistently, and we flew up the league. (Against Boro), it was a reminder that when we get the intensity, physicality and work rate without the ball right, we're a hard team to play against."

He added: "All I ever want, and all the owners want, is the honesty in the performance that our fans can relate to.

“That’s why there’s been a great connection with the supporters and the players, and the owners and myself, because in general they’ve seen honesty and commitment. That’s what the club’s all about.

"I'm not getting carried away, but we upset a good team."
