Jones was disappointed not to cash in on Charlie Kelman’s opener, but recognised Philippe Clement’s squad have the talent to hurt any side.
“They've got good players. They're bringing on people like Kenny McLean, just played in the World Cup, who has run Championship games for about 10 years now,” he said.
“These are a good side. They have threats. You look at the people they're bringing on. You look at (Paris) Maghoma, Maghoma scored a wonderful goal against us for Bolton in my second or third game. They paid £8m for the boy (Andre) Brooks.
"There's some talented players who can handle the football. I had Jack Stacey, who's played in the Premier League. I sold him to the Premier League, so these are good teams, but we have to find a way to make sure that we are more difficult to play against.
“The press worked early on, and they're fit enough to do it. Whether the desire is there to do it, that comes from inside. So we have to look at that.
"But what we have to do is be more difficult to play against, and right now we are too easy. We concede goals too easy, and that is a recipe for disaster in football. And I have to find a formula for that.”
Charlton were good value for Charlie Kelman’s opener in a front-foot start as they looked to end a run of eight winless games.
“We stopped doing pretty much all the stuff we were doing in that spell,” said Jones.
“We stopped turning them. We stopped playing with intensity. We sat off. We were tentative. We didn't win our battles. We didn't pass the ball well enough.
"The performance started to unravel, and then we get to half-time, we tweak something to give us a little bit more aggression in the press, but we just allowed them to cross it, and then allowed them to have a free header, and that’s the basic things in football.
"You have to defend your box better, and normally we're very good at that.
“We had five or six that that didn't perform. They didn't do the basics well. If they don't do that, especially at Championship level, you are going to get punished. Severely punished.”
