Rangers fans are expected to face issues with their commute to and from Paisley before and after the game against St Mirren.

The Ibrox outfit will take on the Buddies in a few hours as they aim to narrow Celtic’s lead at the top of the Scottish Premiership table to just one point.

The Gers have a game in hand over their arch rivals as well, and that is something Derek McInnes will be reminding the players of going into the match.

M8 closures set to impact fans going to watch St Mirren vs Rangers

The Rangers Supporters Liaison Officer reminded fans of the “major” M8 closures that will inconvenience fans getting in and out of St Mirren Park on Saturday. The kick-off is at 8pm, and the M8 will be closed two hours before that and will not open until Sunday afternoon.

Amey SW Trunk Roads, who maintain Scotland’s South-West trunk road network on behalf of Transport Scotland, issued a concise public alert which warned people of significant disruption on one of Scotland’s busiest motorways. They stated that the M8 will close both directions J19–J24 from 6pm on 7 November to 1pm on 8 November.

The closures are needed so crews can safely lift the refurbished spans of the Kirkwood Street and Cornwall Street footbridges back into position. These structures span the M8 between Junction 21 (Seaward Street) and Junction 23 (Dumbreck), southwest of Glasgow city centre.

What Rangers supporters must look out for

There will be signed diversion routes that run through south side Glasgow roads including Helen Street, Paisley Road West, Paisley Road, Dumbreck Road, Edmiston Drive and others, depending on direction and weekend. Vehicles using the signed diversions are exempt from Glasgow’s Low Emission Zone enforcement, as leaving the route risks penalty charges.

Fans are advised to avoid the area if possible, consider alternative routes or modes of transport, and allow extra time. Similar past closures have produced delays of up to an hour when traffic volumes are not reduced, so it would make sense to leave earlier.

Real-time information is available to everyone via Traffic Scotland (traffic.gov.scot or @trafficscotland). Road Work Alerts can be subscribed to for free via the SW Trunk Roads website.
